British East India Company Marked Bayonet

$195.00

British East India Company Marked Bayonet. This late 18th Century bayonet has a distinguishing feature that Brown Bess, and other military bayonet don’t commonly have, that being the spring catch mounted on the socket.  The spring was once held by a single screw evidenced by the hole visible from the inside of the socket.  Probably the screws of these bayonets would become loose, and cause the loss of the spring (thus could very well be a period replacement). Thus, this one had a hole drilled to the rear of the screw hole, and had this more permanent replacement pin added.  The East India heart Trademark is found on the underside of the socket, worn but visible.  No other markings are visible on piece.

The sharp pointed blade is 14 5/8 inches, with a socket of 3 7/8 inches.

Some pitting, but in a cleaned state and would rate as very good.
