Made in the late 30’s – very early WWII era.
British Made U.S. Officer’s Service Dress Cap, made by London clothier/ haberdasher, WOODROW, 46 Piccadilly. I have found hats made by Woodrow beyond WWII. The color of the mohair trim, and the darker leather used on the hat looks like the 30’s style. Fur felt body. The eagle insignia is made by J.R. Gaunt and the British cotter pin fastener. The interior is well stamped on the leather sweat band and on the crown. The main label on the crown has the Royal Cypher and Woodrow’s address(es). Another two -part address for Woodrow appears on the sweatband on opposite sides. General wear, with staining on the crown lining.
American officer’s initials are inside the sweatband at the front but I can’t make them out. There is some wear on the back top in the wool (see photo), otherwise a very respectable hat.
No size label, approximately 7 1/8.
Very good condition.
