Description
Leach Clark was a 25 year old seaman from Boston when enlisting in the 48th Massachusetts Infantry as a private in October of 1862. The regiment was assigned to the Department of the Gulf, and was active in the several engagements against confederate fortifications at Port Hudson. He returned home after his 9 month enlisted on September 3, 1863.
In November of that year, Clark was commissioned a 1st Lt., Company “H,” 3rd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery which was engaged in the Defenses of Washington until mustering out in September of 1865.
Clark was later a member of G.A.R. Post 128, Ipswich, Mass. He served as post commander at some point, but not listed.
