Description

CDV – Adjutant Benjamin F. Peach, Jr. – 8th Mass Infantry.

Benjamin Peach served during the war in all three of the 8th Mass regiments, 3 months, 9 months, and 100 days.  He enlisted in April of 1861, and was one of the earliest volunteers in the state; entering service as a 1st sergeant from Marblehead, Ma.

Peach became the adjutant of the 9th month regiment, and became the colonel of the 100 day regiment.

While with the 1st regiment, the “Minutemen” left the state on April 18th, with two companies (one each) assigned to guard the USS Constitution until she safely left Annapolis for New York, while the other was sent to Fort McHenry, while the other companies proceeded to Washington.

A very good image with some fading at the bottom, a nice armed image of Peach as lieutenant and adjutant.
