CDV – Captain Francis E. Porter 8th Massachusetts Infantry. The full standing image with Porter having his sword at his side has no photographer backmark. The image is signed or identified at the lower part of the mount.
In very good condition. The dark area in the carpet is damage to the original negative.

Description
Francis E. Porter was 36 year of age from Beverly, Ma., a shoe Manufacturer, enlisted as a captain on April 30, 1861 into Co. E, 8th Mass Infantry, and mustered out April 30, 1861, being in one of the 4 Massachusetts regiments that answered President Lincoln’s call for troops in April of 1861 to defend the Capital and suppress the Rebellion. He again enlisted on Sept. of 1862, in the 8th Mass and mustered out at Boston, Ma in August of 1863. On May 3, 1864, he joined the 2nd Company of the Mass Unattached Infantry, and mustered out in November of that year. He retained the rank of captain in all of those assignments.
