Description
CDV – Corporal William L. Kincaid 91st Illinois Infantry. Possibly signed on the back.
William L. Kincaid, from Greenfield, Ill. enlisted in September of 1862 as a corporal, in Co. K, 91st Illinois Infantry. He mustered out with the regiment on July 12, 1865 at Mobile, Alabama. He had a promotion to sergeant by war’s end.
The 91st saw it’s first fighting in Elizabethtown, Ky in Dec. of 1862, and then moved to Alabama, and took an active part in the siege of Spanish Fort, and Fort Blakely, which lead to the fall of Mobile, Ala.
Kincaid would be an active member in the G.A.R. Post 350 (Thomas A. Weisner), Greenfield, Ill. He died in 1909.
The image of Corporal Kincaid is interesting for the variant rank stripes, a rather diminutive size compared to the regulation.
Photographed by Hinton’s Photograph Gallery, New Orleans. Revenue stamp canceled by photographer and dated Jan. 31.
Very good, with some damage to lower mount on front, and paper residue on back (apparently in an album).
An interesting image.
