Description

A wartime era CDV of Captain Watson Webb, 3rd U.S. Artillery, photographed by Giles Bishop, New London, Conn. The image is an upper bust shot of Webb in his dress frock.

Webb entered the service from New York as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd Artillery in April of 1861, and served all through the war, being promoted to 1st Lt., and appointed the regimental adjutant in 1862. He achieved the rank of captain in 1866, and resigned his commission in 1870, having remained in the 3rd Artillery the entire time.

He was the brother of Brigadier General Alexander S. Webb, who along with Watson, both saw hard fighting in the Battle of Gettysburg.  Watson Webb, died 3 December, 1876.
