Sylvestor W. Marshall enlisted as a sergeant into Co. D. 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (Robert’s Independent Artillery), on Nov. 9, 1862. He was promoted to ranks of 2nd and 1st lieutenant by the end of the war.
