Description
Although the 53rd Kentucky Infantry (Mounted) only served one year, its history records a good deal of skirmishes, and battles, and it was stated that it performed its duties to the great satisfaction of its generals.
Thomas Bussell enlisted at Covington, Ky on June 17, 1864, as a private in Company “D” and mustered out in September of 1865, at Louisville. He his photographed by Morse’s Gallery of the Cumberland, Nashville, Tenn., and presented this carte to his father, William. It is only the shell jacket that gives away the notion that Bussell is purely an infantryman.
A nice clear image in fine condition.
From the Michael McAfee Collection.
