Description
A bit bigger than the typical carte de visite, and a tad smaller than a gallery card, this image taken by Matthew Brady, in his Washington Studio, show 3 Scottish highlanders of the 79th New York regiment. This was taken early in the war, as this men are still wearing their highland dress, and have yet to be federalized.
Without the Brady mark, there is very little to distinguish these men from real Scots, other than the New York militia influence in the jackets, and the waist belts with oval US buckles and cap pouches.
This unit served into 1864, but their largest engagement came at the 1st Bull Run.
Very good condition with a more pronounced sepia tone.
