Description

Circa 1900 Public Health Service Shoulder Knots.

The material for the Public Health Service in this period is rather scarce and not easy to get information in regards to the regulations.  It is in this period that the PHS has just out of the old Marine Hospital Service; a medical branch that fell under the control of the Navy.
This knots are in very nice condition, with finely crafted braided and smooth bullion cording.  The black wool ground is fine with Navy Lieutenant rank bars, and PHS insignia in silver bullion. The underside of knot are clean, and have the retailer’s name,
THE WARNOCK CO. NEW YORK.
The bullion shows light wear and toning to the bullion. There is some small area of verdigris near the top of one knot near the button area. The buttons used are army general service types, and appear to be original as they fit perfectly the area where mounted.
A fine set.
