Description

Civil War 12th Veteran Reserve Corps Officer’s Bullion Cap Insignia. This is a scarce piece of Civil War insignia for a12th Veteran Reserve Corps officer.  The uniform of the Veteran Reserve Corps, was a sky blue uniform and trousers. The M1858 forage cap was worn by all in the original dark blue material, but in the case of officers wearing forage caps ,this lighter shade of blue ground for cap insignia would have been used.

The standard infantry horn is used with the regimental number at center. The insignia has a nice raised look, particularly at the center beneath the “12.”  Gold twisted wire is used on the outer edge.  Brown cotton is used for the backing,

There was some mothing to the blue wool, and has been restored.

Organized at Albany, N.Y., October 10, 1863 and Mustered out by November 25, 1865. Due to a shortage of manpower during the war, men of the Union Army, who had been either wounded in battle, or weakened by sickness, disease, etc in the service where used to fill many needed positions such as, various guard duties, working in hospitals, etc.
