Early Indian Wars Newcomb & Lyon 1867 Patent Cartridge Box
Designed to hold 30 cartridges in .50/70 caliber. Inner box leather marked PATENTED 1867.
When the box flap is undone, the cartridges pop up for easier removal. A steel spring was added to the center of the flag to keep it down in the covering position.
A well thought out box, with the use of a sling, but two many Civil War boxes to use up before buying more, thus never accepted for federal use.
Some crackling, light wear, but overall very good.
