Description
Early Smith Carbine With Sling Swivels. Manufactured by Massachusetts Arms Co., Chicopee Falls, Ma./ Address Poultney & Trimble, Baltimore, USA. Single shot, .50 caliber. By depressing the brass latch forward of the trigger, the hinged barrel pivots downward to accept cartridge.
Serial Number 2650.
This is a nice wartime used carbine retaining very good amounts of original finish overall. The 21 5/8 inch barrel has about 90+ percent blue, with scattered light rust that will clean, has the silver blade front sight mounted on dovetailed base. The frame has casehardened colors on breech in protected areas, with hints of color overall mixed with blemishing; barrel band, trigger guard, butt plate, rear sight, and swivels are iron and have a brownish color. Walnut butt stock and forearm are very good with dings, small dents from period usage. The stock has inspector cartouche “JM.”
The bore is excellent. Mechanics excellent.
This model has the sling swivel mounts and not fitted for saddle ring bar. AKA the “Artillery Model” to some collectors, but issued to cavalry units as well.
A scarcer model due to the sling swivels.
