Description

French WWI Stereo viewer & Three Full Boxes of Glass Stereoviews.

The lot consists of a nicely made stereo viewer, made of a fine grained wood, with the dual eyepieces. It loads from the side, and a small brass swing lock hold the stereoviews in place while viewing. The viewer measures 4.5″ from the front (looking at the eyepieces) x 3.5″ long x 2 1/8″ at its widest.

There are three cardboard boxes, some with the company labels each containing around 18 views each. They all came together in a new box.

Over 50 glass stereo slides showing mostly French with some British views taken during WWI, including scenes of troops in trenches, dead soldiers on the battlefield, skeletal remains of the dead piled up extremely high, bombed town, houses and church scenes, wounded, medical staff with wounded, Paris parades, German POWs marched from the front, ordnance exploding captured on film, and more.

The black and white photos have a brief description of the scene between the views on the slides. 1 7/8 x 4.1/4 inches approximate. Some have minute scratches, but overall in fine condition.  These were taken before the American AEF arrived in France, some of the dates around the 1916 period.

A very enlightening group of images from the Great War, showing many of the horrible aspects of war.

Due to the amount of glass and the care needed to prepare for shipping, this item is going in a large Priority Box.
