Greatcoat Pistol made by Thomas Mace, Reading, Berkshire, England Circa 1850.  This is fine quality smooth bore, single shot pistol in approximately .50 caliber.  Walnut stocked with checkered wrist. All iron furniture, 5 1/4 inch browned barrel with false Damascus finish. Factory engraved on lock, hammer, and trigger guard, ramrod pipe, and barrel tang. Sliding safety behind hammer. Ramrod tipped with horn. Rectangular escutcheon.   Nice, clean example that is mechanically excellent.
