Description
This is a nice example of a Staff Corps chapeau de bra for an Ordnance officer of the Indian Wars period.
It has a wonderful cockade with bullion eagle and flaming bomb insignias mounted on black silk. The beaver felt hat is very good condition with some wear on the edges, and an even toning to the bullion overall; the ostrich feathers are in place and a few stems have broken which does not detract from the appearance.

The sweatband is largely intact but some stitching has come loose, the silk lining is fine with some paper residue that must have had the name of a previous owner. These staff corps ( Ord, Med, SC, Com, etc.) types are harder to find that the typical staff variety.
