Martial Sheet Music – Smith’s March -Mexican War Related. Smith’s March Composed and dedicated to Gen, Persifore Smith The Hero of Contreras. This was taken from a broken book of sheet music, showing some spine damage, along with aging on paper. Complete with all the music.
Persifor Frazer Smith was a colonel in Zachary Taylor’s Army in the Mexican War, and commanded a brigade admirably and then given a promotion as Brevet Brigadier General. He then was transferred to General Winfield Scott’s army, given a mounted rifle regiment and was credited with having a decisive roll in the victory at the Battle of Contreras. He later made brigadier general in the army and was in command of the Department of Utah, with the task of putting down the Mormon Insurrection in 1858, but died at Fort Leavenworth, before he had organized his command.
Certainly a framable piece; decorative and historic. Good condition.
