Mexican Border Villa Raid – 13th Cavalry Watch Fob.
The fob is in the shape of the State of New Mexico, and has raised writing on both sides. One side reads, “Souvenir of the Villa Raid on Columbus, N.M. March 9th, 1916.” Has background map of the state with major cities, etc. The other side, “9 Citizens and 7 Soldiers of the 13th Cavalry killed town looted and burned – Raider driven into Mexico after 2 hours fighting leaving more than 80 died.” Marked by maker, in very small letters, “C.D. Chiles & Co. Chicago”
Leather is very good overall but broken at the fold.
28mm wide (fob). Approximately 5 inches in length.
First we’ve seen, and a nice historic souvenir from the Mexican Border period.
One of these sold in 2017 for $260.00. Very reasonably priced to sell.
