Description
This offering is a fine example of a militia officer’s sword belt rig, complete with shoulder sling, and both sword hangers sans snap swivels. The plate is identical to plate 405 in “American Military Belt Plates” by O’Donnell & Campbell, and shows the same stamping flaw (horizontal line). This example was not finished with a silver plating, always having been brass.
The plate 3 1/4 x 2 3/16 inches, and shows a fear amount of the original lustre.
Black bridle leather was used for the sword belt. Black japanned rings act as the suspension points for all leather strapping. Leather shows some wear, with slight crackling and wear, but supple overall. Untouched!
