Description

Model 1875 Modified Pistol Cartridge Pouch.

The pouch is a modification of the standard Civil War cap box used with the rifled musket. This type, and likely the earlier, had only wool fleece for holding the loose .45 caliber cartridges for either the Colt Richards Conversions, & Colt Single Action Army, Remington New Model conversions to metallic cartridge, and the Smith & Wesson No. 3 “American,” and Schofield revolvers.  The only other modification was the removal of the inner flap and “ears” added to prevent loose cartridge from fall out.  The later modification of these was the addition of wooden blocks that held the cartridges.

All of the modification had the “U S” in oval stamped on the flap.

No doubt in this era, the miserly Ordnance Department was always trying to save cost of equipment when so much of old Civil War inventory remained in stores.

In fine condition, and great for display.  Untouched condition with some crackled leather here and there. Only traces of the original wool fleece remains.
