Description
Mounted Cavalryman Image – Quarter Plate Tintype. This federal cavalryman sits atop his mount; McClellan Saddle, equipment straps visible, saddle bags, and crupper strap seen in photo. The horse wears the 1859 bridle and halter with some gilt tinting to the bit. The soldiers shell jacket, saber hilt, belt buckle, and cap insignia are tinted in gilt as well.
The image appears to have been without the protection of glass and case, having some spotting and light roughness to the image overall. A gilt mat has been tightly wrapped to conform to the image size of 3 x 4 1/4 inches.
Great subject matter, and a very good image of a union cavalryman.
