Naramore United States Treasury & National Bank Note Detector Pocket Edition This is a rare set containing 18 Carte De Visite photographs of images of U.S. currency from $1 notes up to $1000. The set was published by the American Photographic Co. Bridgeport, Conn., issued by Geo. S. Lester, New Haven, Conn. General Agent, and copyrighted in 1866. The images of the notes are in fine condition, and measure approximately 2.5 x 4 inches. The back mark is pretty much a complete title for the set.
Realizing of the dangers of counterfeiters using this set, the government soon withdrew these for sale, and many of these sets were destroyed. This was the first time the U.S. Treasury allowed currency to be photographed.
The cards are contained in a cardboard box covered in glossy black paper with gold printing. Top section of the lid is missing, and the base section is loose.
The individual CDVs are available in limited supply are selling between $75 and $175 each.
