Description

National Association of Naval Veteran’s Medal / Badge.   In finding this illustration from the 14th Annual Reunion from 1899, I have to assume the association began in 1885. The badge is made of gilt brass and silver, the later being an eagle clutching a federal shield with the words, “DON’T GIVE UP THE SHIP.”  The anchors each bear dates of 1861 & 1865 indicating Civil War service. The medium blue ribbon, done in similar fashion to a Union Jack bearing only stars, has the name of the association.  The eagle grips a riband with the name of the association upon it as well.  The ribbon is weak, and has been repaired with acid free tape on the reverse.

A simple pin brooch.  No markings on the back. There is no history with this piece.

90mm height.

Fine condition overall despite the weakness of the ribbon. as the metal components are slight and easily broken.

National Association of Naval Veterans, 1861-1865.
