Scarce Massachusetts Shoulder Sword Belt Plate. Found in a stone wall in Auburndale, Mass (Newton, near Boston). This brass oval convex plate has an applied anchor with crossed Codfish (or another type such as Alewives), with a belt loop on the reverse that would take either a cloth or leather belt (about 1 3/8 inch wide), and a catch that is detached but present.
The plate could possibly be an early Mass Naval Militia plate, or a small company formed around the North Shore area near the coast.
A fine untouched patina, and likely a scarce plate, or one of a kind.
