Scarce 4 button officers field coat.
Spanish War Wisconsin U.S.V. Captain’s 4 Pocket Field Coat. Made of blue wool with embroidered collar insignia for this Wisconsin infantry captain, is a different variant having both the state and U.S.V. on the collar in backward fashion. For what ever reason, the collar was either replaced with another collar, or having to be taken off to apply the bullion to the collar after this officer’s unit was federalized. The repairs to the collar and on the upper back certainly look done in the period of use. Wisconsin state buttons (some loose).
Made by Geo Lauterer, Chicago. No ID.
Overall in fine condition with some bullion lose (left loose threads to show you areas of loss); some wear to the bullion in a few places on the shoulder straps.
A nice example of a scarcer Spanish War -Insurrection period 4 pocket field coat that displays very well.
