SUPREME HEADQUARTERS ALLIED POWERS EUROPE BADGE IN BOX, made by Arthus Bertrand & Co. with printed address in the lid of the box at “46, Rue de Rennes, 46 Paris.” Finding an example in the original box came up rather short. The badge has three of the WWII style silver clutches with smooth backs. Maker marked on the reverse of the badge “Arthus / Bertrand.” 2 inch badge in height.
No information as to the original wearer of this piece. The address is an older one, and the Company has not been there for some time. The look of the badge suggests its manufacture sometime in the 50’s, as SHAPE was not established until 1951. SHAPE is the commanding organization for NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
Arthus Bertrand Co. was established in 1803, and today has for competitors the likes of Tiffany & Co. Cartier, Bulgari, Christian Dior, Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels, and other top names in the jewelry (and more) business, making a case for the fine quality of this badge.
Excellent condition, and the box in like fashion.
