This 7 Jewel watch was given to a New York officer originally with the 74th Infantry.
A gold-toned open faced pocket watch. Size is 14-16. 7 Jewel, and likely a Swiss made movement. There are many cracks on the dial and the dial is double sunk.
The pocket watch does not work. Showing scratches and wear – view all photos.
Stamped on inside is a logo and number, then on the opposite side of the presentation is a number that is just a few digits off.
The presentation is nicely done. His monogram is on the back cover.
“From the Boys of Co. L 53rd Pioneer Inf. to Capt. Brent G. Nunnelley. The presentation reads “53rd Pioneers Inf, with records indicate the Nunnelley was with the 55th. An easy mistake perhaps if the number was written quickly and or numbers just got confused. The 55th was formerly the 74th New York Infantry prior to the war. The captain transferred to the 62nd Pioneers on July 24, 1918. Can’t find any info concerning his WWI service. He did remain in the National Guard after the war in the Quartermaster Dept. Some further research needed.
