Description

This is an Ike jacket worn by a member of the 333rd Engineer Special Service Regiment attached first to the Advance Sector-Communication Zone (ASCZ), and then the 75th Infantry Division.

Having arrived in England in late 1943, this unit finally arrived in full in France in July of 1944, a month or so after the D-Day Invasions, moving inland from Utah Beach and Cherbourg, beginning construction operations. In early 1945 they moved with 3rd Army to the region of the Saar Sector, building bridges as fast as Patton’s Army needed them. The 333rd must have been assigned under the 75th Division late in the war and into occupation.  I have included a brief history of the unit from its move to the UK to Germany.

The ike jacket is in excellent condition and identified to this master sergeant as “M-7287” (The first initial of the last name and the last four of his army service number). The size label in the pocket lining says it is a size 34 but a tag on the neck reads 40R.  I believe the 40R in incorrect. The current unit is the 75th ID and the prior combat patch is for the ASCZ with tab below (ADSEC-Advance Sector). The patches are both machine made, with the tab being embroidered on wool. The dark area on the sleeve is where a Meritorious Unit Commendation patch was sewn, but somehow became separated and is in the pocket, along with this sergeant’s visor cap eagle device.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia for the 333rd Engineers are German made, as well as the ribbon bars; consisting of Bronze Star, American Campaign, EAME (European-African-Middle Eastern) Campaign, and Good Conduct ribbons. The stripes on the sleeve top to bottom;  4 bars for at least two years overseas, and on hash stripe for the first three years of enlistment. The original collar disks are in place along with the addition of the “Ruptured Duck” sewn on the left breast.

The original shirt accompanies this jacket, and I added the tie for the look it deserves.

A great uniform jacket of WWII’s European Theatre of Operations.
