Description

I have not been able to discover the identity of this building, yet it seems to draw a lot of attention.  A formation of cadets is assembled in front of the building, while old time post bugler Louis Bentz is playing a tune.  The period is Civil War to early Indian Wars era.

The image is in excellent condition, with fine crisp focus.  The albumen photo has been mounted on a thicker, and possibly newer paper mount.  Image size is 6 x 8 inches.

Louis Bentz was a German by birth in 1806 and died at the age of 71 (72), in 1876.  He was chief bugler at the Point for over 40 years.  He was buried in the post cemetery at West Point.

Great image.
