Description

The jacket is a British Army Dress Blue Patrol Uniform Jacket with the rank of Brigadier on both shoulder straps. The ribbons are sewn onto the jacket and are faded due to their age. The right shoulder strap has a loose thread at the end and is partially separated from the jacket (see pictures). Inside the left breast pocket is the maker’s tag “West & Sons Ltd., 152 Newbond St. London W., No. 59835 Date 11/11/18, Lt. E.G. Hemming” (spelling of the last name is difficult to read clearly).

The date on the tag is that of Armistice Day; when the armistice was signed between the Allies of WWI and Germany at Compiegne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I. This historical moment took place at eleven o’clock in the morning, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. It is very interesting that this jacket was dated as such and is a unique piece to add to a collection.
