Description

This is a very nice condition, Abstract of Sales for the 3rd Cavalry Regiment at Fort Laramie, Wyoming written by 1st Lieutenant George Augustus Drew, A.A.Q.M.. The abstract was written on December 31, 1877 for the amount of $139.38, which included the purchase of items such as forage caps, fur gloves, wool blankets, and much more. The document was sent to the U.S. Treasury, Washington, D.C. on January 10, 1878.

The document has very little wear, discoloration or damage. There is a slight roll to the right side of the document on the first page along with very small wear marks on the corners of the folds. The backs of both documents are stamped as being received on January 26, 1878. Overall the two page document is in excellent condition.

George Augustus Drew – Entered the Michigan 6th Cavalry in 1862 as a Captain. He was promoted to Major in September of 1863, breveted Lt. Col. in March of 1865 for highly distinguished and meritorious service in the Shenandoah Valley and breveted Colonel in April of 1865 for highly distinguished and meritorious service against Richmond, VA. He was honorably mustered out of service in October of 1865.

He returned to the service when he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 10th Infantry in May of 1866. He was promoted to 1st Lt. in March of 1868 and in 1870 was assigned to the 3rd Cavalry. In 1875 he became the Quarter Master for the 3rd Cavalry and was promoted to Captain in 1879. He retired on March 15, 1896.
