Rare Un-issued & Boxed USMC Shoulder Scales – SOLD

Description

This a certainly a great rarity to find not only an un-issued pair of shoulder scales for a Marine enlisted man, but to find them in the original box. As seen, this is what would have been handled by USMC quartermasters prior to the finishing off the scales with the red wool fringe prior to issue with the dress uniform coat.

The scales are still showing their original bright polished finish, and wrapped in the original paper. Within the box are the brass slides and keys for holding scales to the shoulders of the coat.

The box itself is more of a rarity than the scales, being of an ephemeral nature, and that with a low probability of survival. The glossing green paper stock, does show some age toning; the original label remains glued in place on lower section, and has some paper chipping away. The word “POLISHED” with something else are stamped below the label.

Dimensions are 5 ¼ x 7 x 1 ¾ inches.
