The photograph Anson, “Opposite the Metropolitan Hotel, NYC,” posed this 8th NY private in a great shot. The soldier wears his New York militia shell jacket, a blousy pair of trouser with dark welts, and a state chasseur cap. His waist belt has a plain brass buckle , cap box, and a large 8 on the shoulder belt plate.
