Description
Holding his 1840 Heavy Dragoon saber, which replaced their original Ames 1833 Dragoon pattern, this lancer is seen wearing his shoulder belt over the left side instead of the right. He wears his trouser legs outside of the boots.
The National Lancers just prior to the Civil War were attached to the 1st Mass. Light Infantry, but after the first shots were fired, the comprised companies “C” and “D” of the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry.
Very good condition. Some spotting, light soiling. Scarce image of this Boston mounted unit.
