Description
This Allegheny Arsenal Pole Pad was attached to the front end of the cannon limber pole to protect the lead horses from being injured, and would also protect the end of the pole. Constructed of thick leather and held together with copper rivets. The original retaining pin is present. Marked “ALLEGHENY ARSENAL 1864.”
Shows some use with crackling to leather, particularly on the front section. Still a very nice example of an artillery accoutrement not commonly seen.
