The Sanitary Commission was a private relief organization created by Federal legislation in 1861, with the main purpose of supporting the sick and wounded federal soldiers during the Civil War.  By the beginning of 1863, branches were forming all over the North in major cities, with great amounts of money being raised.

This issue contains a of the General Secretary, operations in various departments, list of surgeons in charge at federal hospitals (list begins with Henry Janes, Surgeon, in charge of Hospital, Gettysburg), Report from the Army of the Cumberland (then at Stevenson, Ala. Oct. 10, 1863), Prisoners in Richmond, Surgeon General Hammond’s Treatise On Hygiene,  brief article about the battle of Gettysburg, and far more information.

Overall in very good condition, with some aging tone to paper, a few small tears, folds, etc.

A scarce first issue bulletin for an important Civil War relief organization.
