Description
30th New York Separate Company Shako, C-1870s.
Wool felt body, with molded leather crown, visor, lower shako body trim, and chinstrap. The plate is a sunburst pattern with spear points and cannon barrels encircling the regiment number on black enamel. New York state side buttons.
Company label inside crown is identified to “E.A. Desby, 30th NGSNY shako, made by Baker & McKenney, and probably made prior to 1883, when this firm was bought out by Ridabock & Co.
The 30th Separate Company was part of the states 7th Division, established in Elmira, New York, in 1879.
Very good condition.
