Description

Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Ribbon Bars & More.

Admiral H.G. Hopwood’s ribbon bars, leather name plate, sterling 4 star admirals shirt rank, come from his newly acquired additional material, all from the same archive I purchase several years ago.

The leather name tag, unused is very similar to the one he wore on his leather flight jacket seen in photos as the commander of the Pacific Fleet.

The 4 star shirt rank is marked “STERLING,” and is a clutchback type (no clutches).

Hopwood’s ribbon bars include: Legion of Merit with gold star and “V” device; Navy Commendation Medal with gold star and “V” device; WWI Victory Medal; Yangtze Service Medal; American Defense Medal with Atlantic Clasp; American Campaign Medal; Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 four bronze campaign stars; WWII Victory Medal; National Defense Medal; Korean Service Medal; United Nations Korea Medal; Philippine Liberation Medal (entitled to one star); Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation; Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation; Philippine Independence Ribbon.  These are all embroidered silk on dark blue wool.  The Korean service, and Phil Liberation ribbons are missing their additional award stars.

The Navy Distinguished Service Medal is not Admiral Hopwoods, and not represented on the ribbon bar, the ribbons worn in the last years of his service before this last decoration.  I have added for to represent all decorations he had received during his long career.  It is in new like condition, probably made in the Vietnam era and later.

Makes for a nice display, show the admiral’s three war record of service.
