M1851 Mounted Belt Plate Id’d to August Steinbruck -1st Missouri Cavalry.

Listed on the company rolls as August Steinbrick, he enlisted in Co. A, 1st Missouri Cavalry in September of 1863, and was discharged at Little Rock, Arkansas on September 1, 1865. The unit served in various commands, Dept. of Kansas, Army of Southwest Missouri,  Army of the Frontier, Dept. of Tennessee, Dept. of Arkansas, and took part in the Arkansas Expedition.  Most of their service was pursuing Indians, guerrillas, professional bushwackers.

The 1851 plate was acquired in a trade in 1971, then valued at $12.00, an was sold by the veteran’s grandson, Albert Steinbruck. The discharge and pension documents are photostatic copies from 1971 period. The buckle has a scotch taped id on the back.  Benchmarked “958.”

Nice plate ot a scarce unit.
