Description
CDV – Charles P. Stone.
This is an early war image of Colonel Charles P. Stone, then with the D.C. Militia. In May of 1861, he became the colonel of the 14th U.S. Infantry (on the books as colonel only), until Sept. of 1864, but commissioned as brigadier general a few days later in May of 1861, into the U.S. Volunteers General Staff, and mustered out of the Volunteers on April of 1864. Still the named colonel of the 14th Infantry, resigned that commission in Sept. 1864.
