Description
Civil War Era B-Flat Saxhorn By E. Seltmann, Philadelphia.
Over the shoulder tenor saxhorn in B- Flat, made by “E. SELTMANN / MAKER / PHILA.” on the bell area. The overall length of the instrument is 41.5 inches, made of brass with a german silver band around the rim of the bell. Piston valves are used on this model horn.
Seltmann’s logo on the horn was used in the Civil War years.
The saxhorn has had one of the covers for a piston valve replaced, and there are dents, dings, etc. overall. The leather shoulder strap appears to be a later addition by perhaps a reenactor.
These saxhorns are rare and worthy of restoration by an musician or collector.
