Description
CDV – LtCol. Henry Cary Bankhead USA. Seated wearing civilian clothing while holding a beaver top hat. His trousers may be military. A card accompanied this image saying it was from the cdv album of General Robert O. Tyler. The image ID was confirmed by Roger Hunt.
A Marylander, Bankhead graduated from the USMA, Class of 1850. During the Civil War, he was the Army Inspector General for both the 1st and 5th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac. Bankhead was breveted brigadier general at war’s end.
