Description

CDV – “54th Reg NYSM Battery Artillery,” as identified on the reverse in period ink.  This artillery battery was assigned to the guard contingent in the case of Confederate prisoner revolts. This is the part of the Union camp – the prison stockade would be to the far left.

This is a battery of six guns with all of the their limbers and caissons, along with the officers and men posing for the photographers, Moulton & Larkin, Elmira, N,Y.  (the caption records this as being located at Rochester).

Has a revenue stamp which appears to have been torn from when placed there originally.

Very good condition. A scarce image.
