Description
CDV – The Image Of 10th New York Heavy Artilleryman presented in the hand by the recipient, Foster N. Dealing of the 10th NYHA, and later a captain in the 13th HA US Colored Troops.
ID’d “Mr. Markus J. Walker / of Co. D, 4th Bt N.Y.A. presented to Foster Dealing at Camp Richmond / Dec. 16th, 1862.” Walker is holding a Smith & Wesson No.2 Army revolver with 6 inch barrel.

The 10th Heavy Artillery was organized in December of 1862, from the 4th, 5th, and 7th battalions of Artillery. Mustered in at Sacket’s Harbor, New York in September of 1862. This unit had engagements at Cold Harbor, Cedar Creek, and most of the Petersburg Campaign.
