Description

Sutler’s Check For Goods Purchased By 7th OVI Soldier.  The check was issued by the Paymaster for the 7th Ohio Volunteers and made out to the regimental sutler Samuel Hatch.

The soldier was George W. Anness, who enlisted as a private in June of 1861, into Co. E, 7th OVI. and wounded at Winchester on March 23, 1862.  In November of 1863 he enlisted into Co I of the 12th Ohio Cavalry., and mustered out in June of 1865.  Anness had promotions in the rank of corporal and sergeant in the 12th Ohio Cavalry.

A clean document dated January 20, 1862.  Signed on the back by the paymaster.
