Description
CDV – Brigadier General Charles Henry Van Wyck. A New York representative in 36 and 37 Congresses, a Union Brigadier General in the Civil War, and a Nebraska Senator, after moving to that state in 1874. (1881 – 1887).
Charles Henry Van Wyck, (1824 – 1895), from Poughkeepie, New York. Entered service as Colonel of the 56th New York Infantry in September of 1861, and was wounded in the knee at the Battle of Fair Oaks. Toward the end of the war, he was promoted to brevet brigadier general in March of 1865, and later that year in September, was promoted to full brigadier general. He was mustered out of service in 1866.
