Description
General Orders No. 204 – War Dept Dec. 11. 1862. This order generated from the Adjutant General’s Office, pertained to the cashiering of 1st Lt. Frank C. Goodrich, 2nd U.S. Infantry for misbehavior before the enemy on the day of battle at Gaines’ Mills, Virginia, June 27.1862.
This examination of the facts, found that Lt. Goodrich, had left his command on account of sickness, and was pardoned by President Lincoln, and was suspended for six months as of date of sentencing. In essence, if Goodrich was found to be guilt of the original charge, basically cowardice before the enemy, the sentence would have extremely harsh.
A nice example of Lincoln again earning the name “The Great Pardoner.”
In fine condition.
