1860 Model Spencer Carbine -Issued March 1, 1865 To the 7th Indiana Vol. Cavalry – SOLD

1860 Model Spencer Carbine.  A well used carbine, that apparently was issued out to one regiment during the Civil War, turned in and re-issued to the 7th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry.  Serial No. 51110 is in the range from 51002 through 51306, with just a few other carbines going to other regiments.  The closest numbers recorded to the 7th Indiana around this Spencer’s Serial No. are: 51103 -51110 – 51111…(see image of range).

Overall a plum-brown carbine, good wood with dings, in the underside of the forearm, and a crack along the area of the magazine tube on the buttstock, on the left side, which is typical for Spencers. Inspector marks are visible, and almost discernible with some research.  Mechanics are very good, as well as the bore. Marking are legible, top line weakest (see photo).

Currently the lever, block screw is a replacement, as well as top buttplate screw, and forward trigger plate screw.  May have a lever screwing coming in soon.  Overall a pleasing wartime Spencer with a history.

The 7th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry was organized in October of 1863, and were engaged in several expeditions in the Mississippi, Tennessee area.
