Description
Identical on front and back, this brown gutta percha case has a nice floral pattern with minimal geometric designs. It does have a few typical flaws with chipping on corners, and along the edge (1/2″ in length), but still presents well with its most pleasing contents.
The 1/6 plate ambrotype captures this attractive young woman, dressed in a pattern silk dress, with white lace collar and cuff trim. The dress has been tinted using different shades of blue. Her cheeks and hand are expertly tinted in pink. She wears a brooch where the collars are joined, and a watch chain can also be seen suspended from that downward; along with her rings, these items have been finished with a gilt paint. The glass plate background has been painted in a dark brown.
The Gilt stamped brass inner frame and mat are in fine condition, firmly placed in the dark maroon velvet lining.
Unfortunately, the subject is unidentified.
Overall in very good- fine condition, with some light scuffing and light scratching to the image surface. this would be an excellent image for reproducing for publication if need be
